One of the easiest and simplest ways to give a bedroom a big wallop of design is with an accent wall. You could make the case that the best place to do this is behind the headboard, because the rest of the room should bow down to the place where we lay our heads, rather than compete with it, right?
The process can be as simple as painting the wall a different color. But with options available today like 3-D cement tiles and mica wallpaper, you might want to consider the range of choices before making a decision. Check out some of these beautiful and creative ideas for bedroom accent walls.
1. Strategic moldings. In this example, a combing treatment was incorporated on metallic blue paint to give this bedroom wall a base of texture. Then, moldings were added to frame out the nightstands and lamps and create a space in the middle over the bed. They bring the tall wall down to the scale of the furnishings.
2. Two-tone. This fashionable accent wall combines some of the most intense hues seen in a spectacular sunset, yet has a soft and inviting appearance overall. The blurring and composition give the wall a look that resembles a Rothko painting.
3. Mural. An arboreal mural brings the edge of a forest into this bedroom. This wallcovering is easy to apply.

7. Three-dimensional tiles. A grid of geometric 3-D concrete tiles is extra interesting here, because as the circles protrude, the dark color recedes.
8. Ceiling tiles. This unique wall is a mix of several tin ceiling tile styles, all custom painted and carefully arranged to create a striking composition on the headboard wall.
9. Chalkboard paint. This is a playful way to have a wall you can switch up on a whim. Chalkboard paint now comes in a range of colors, so there are a lot of possibilities here. Just remember to use dust-free chalk, as chalk dust and fresh pillowcases are never a good mix.
10. Reclaimed wood. Only time and weather could have helped the wood in this room reach such worn gray perfection. The old wide boards made up a barn in a former life. Many homeowners use one wall of reclaimed wood and three walls covered in drywall these days. It balances rustic and contemporary, rough-hewn and clean-lined in the bedroom.
11. Paneling. As opposed to reclaimed boards, paneling adds texture but comes in sheets — installation is straightforward and easier than milling, cutting, de-nailing and composing used boards. In this room, board and batten paneling adds texture and a country cottage feel.
12. Mica. This mica wallcovering brings in some glamorous geology, adding glint and texture to a Vancouver penthouse.
