“We really felt we could trust the team’s vision, and they respected ours. It was a great design partnership.” - Amy P.

“The history of architecture is the history of the struggle for light.” Le Corbusier – Architect Think about the difference between getting your photo taken in at your local DMV under harsh fluorescent lighting, versus your picture at a sexy, low-lit restaurant. Good lighting is truly everything, but it is oftentimes an afterthought when designing a room. Whether it’s a bright task lamp on your desk to help you stay productive or a sconce by your bedside for cozy late-night reading, lighting is one of the most powerful tools for creating a specific mood. Bringing lighting decisions to the forefront of the design can make all the difference, and we’ll show you how. Layer the Light Lighting, like any great interior design element, should be layered to create contrast. Wood Burning Fireplace Essentially, a standard wood-burning fireplace comprises these elements: Hearth (floor in front of the fireplace), Firebox (where the wood burns), Damper (the lever that opens and closes the flue) and the Smoke chamber and flue (where the smoke is drawn up and out). There are three types of wood burning fireplaces: How it Functions Before lighting a fire, the damper is opened to allow smoke and combustion gases to escape. Post-Covid life trends are shifting but what does this mean? In short, increasingly people are moving away from the city to regional/rural areas, many are now working from home permanently.  This has caused a desire to get back to nature, reduce stress level and encourage a positive mindset. Another exciting and productive visit to the annual Las Vegas Market…the nation’s most comprehensive residential design, construction and furnishing sourcing with expanded and reimagined furniture, décor and some 40+ evens at the World Market Center. As always, we maximized our time to see all of the exciting, new pieces and trends. There were six trends that I found to be extremely prevalent and consistent from showroom to showroom. Trend #1: Knife Edge Upholstery A knife edge is a seam without a decorative finish. Typically, it tapers to sharp, crisp edges and corners, creating a very simple, clean, polished look. However, this year, the edge remains loose leaving a casual and unpolished look. Trend #2: Forrest Green, Rust, Mustard & Gold The popular deep greens, rusts, mustards and golds are a nod to the throwback style of the 60’s and 70’s. Unlike the neutrals, warm whites, and soft hues of the last five years or so, this is a radical departure from what has defined home décor previously. Check out trend #4 for more on the resurgence in popularity of the throwback aesthetic. Trend #3: Natural Wood Right now, natural wood tones are making a comeback for many compelling reasons. We’re […]
