It’s finally Spring and soon we will be stepping into summer!! I know we all hoped this summer might be different from last year…and that we could return back to “normal.” But, sadly we are still amidst a pandemic, although things seem to be improving. Even though we cannot go out and live our lives the way we used to this summer, we can still have fun at home. So, what better time to spruce up your house than now? Below are some tips to help you get your house ready for summer.

Spring Clean 1

With more time spent at home as of late, there may be more to clean during this year’s spring cleaning. So, it may feel like a huge undertaking. But it doesn’t have to be as daunting as you might think. Spend a few hours every weekend clearing out the clutter and making it feel more relaxed and restorative. A mid-year evaluation is a great way to declutter. Take a look at the things you have. If you haven’t used something in the first half of the year, and it isn’t a summer item, toss it/ donate it. Your house should reflect the freshness of the spring and be ready to welcome summer – which is just right around the corner!!

Maximize the Light 2

Maximizing light doesn’t always require structural modifications.

Start by replacing your heavy, black-out curtains to light, sheer curtains that still provide privacy while letting in the warm summer light. Likewise, make sure the materials in your house are relevant to the season. If you have heavy throw pillows and blankets, try swapping these out to cotton and linen which can help create an airy, summery look.

Rearrange Furniture

Another great way to prepare your house for summer is to rearrange the furniture. Many people don’t consider a different/special arrangement at the change of the season, but during summer, our bodies crave more light and open space. An updated arrangement can create a better flow and more efficient use of space. For example, arrange your furniture to face the patio or the front yard. This way, you can keep an eye on your kids while they play outside. Consider adding more seating near windows, with storage underneath for books and board games, to promote family time. Go easy on the décor and open up the space.

Re-Paint

Painting is one of the easiest ways to change the look of the house. If you have dark walls, give them a fresh coat of paint in a light, summery color. Light, fresh walls can help maximize light.

Buy Plants

Another way to get your house ready for summer is to bring in plants. I am sure a lot of you have jumped into gardening during the pandemic, so adding more indoor plants may be in-keeping with your pandemic interests. Consider fresh cut flowers too which adds a pop of color. This is a great way to feel connected to the outdoors. Incorporate summer scents too 2. Add candles or aroma diffusers with fresh scents. Our brain works in a multi-sensory way, so creating a multi-sensory environment can bring a relaxed and rejuvenated feeling to your home.
