Lampshades can change the entire look of your space. Update an existing lamp or create a custom look and pair a shade with a vintage base.

THE DRUM SHADE: A wide cylinder shape where the circumference of the top and the bottom are equal, a drum shade lends a modern touch and casts loads of light. Looks best with a column base.

Consider the size: The bottom circumference of a shade should be around two-thirds the height of the base and wider than the widest part of the base.

THE EMPIRE SHADE: A conical shape with a bottom about twice as wide as the top, the classic empire shade is the decor equivalent of an A-line dress. Looks great on any lamp base.

Choose the Hue: White or cream shades diffuse the most light, while darker ones add drama. Consider how much light you need before choosing a color.

THE BELL SHADE: A conical shape with sloping concave sides and a flared bottom, the bell shade has a bottom about twice as wide as its top. Looks best on an urn-shape base.

Consider the Shapes: Shades and bases in the same shapes, such as round bases with drum shades, match well. Similarly, decorative styles complement, such as an urn base and a bell shade.
