Area rugs in our homes are like shoes to a well-put-together outfit. You wouldn’t go to the trouble of selecting your best outfit for a night out and then go barefoot. It’s the same principle with rugs. Shoes complete an outfit and, in some instances, will actually outshine what you’re wearing, if you want them to that is. It’s the same with rugs. They can be a game changer on how a room looks and feels.  Rugs can either sit in harmony with your room, or they can make a statement by adding an element of surprise, and I for one, love surprises! (1) Rugs create a visual pathway, add warmth and character, enable texture, color and dimension, enable room flow, provide sound absorption, define a space, connect a space, tie a design together and even act as wall art. Ultimately, they provide comfort. Since area rugs play such an important role in design, it’s critical to select the right rug for your space. With the need to consider size, material, and functionality, it’s hard to know where to start. We’ve tackled some of the hard questions for you below. Rug Materials, Care & Maintenance (2) One of the most […]

Another exciting and productive visit to the annual Las Vegas Market…the nation’s most comprehensive residential design, construction and furnishing sourcing with expanded and reimagined furniture, décor and some 40+ evens at the World Market Center. As always, we maximized our time to see all of the exciting, new pieces and trends. There were six trends that I found to be extremely prevalent and consistent from showroom to showroom. Trend #1: Knife Edge Upholstery A knife edge is a seam without a decorative finish. Typically, it tapers to sharp, crisp edges and corners, creating a very simple, clean, polished look. However, this year, the edge remains loose leaving a casual and unpolished look. Trend #2: Forrest Green, Rust, Mustard & Gold The popular deep greens, rusts, mustards and golds are a nod to the throwback style of the 60’s and 70’s. Unlike the neutrals, warm whites, and soft hues of the last five years or so, this is a radical departure from what has defined home décor previously. Check out trend #4 for more on the resurgence in popularity of the throwback aesthetic. Trend #3: Natural Wood Right now, natural wood tones are making a comeback for many compelling reasons. We’re […]

Post-Covid life trends are shifting but what does this mean? In short, increasingly people are moving away from the city to regional/rural areas, many are now working from home permanently.  This has caused a desire to get back to nature, reduce stress level and encourage a positive mindset. This shift has affected interior design; we are seeing a shift away from the “show-home” style in favor of a less-manufactured aesthetic. 2023 will be all about increasing convenience, comfort, and personal style. Check out some of our favorite interior design predictions for next year. What’s In? Throwbacks The return or Art Deco – Try curved furniture pieces and dome-style lamps, curved arches, geometric designs in lighting and wallpaper. Continuing the love for Mid Century Modern – Use period piece furnishings or accessories to blend the design of the existing space with new taste preferences. Incorporating Vintage / Victorian styles – Incorporate vintage pieces or newly constructed pieces, with the shapes and elements of period pieces. LED Lighting It’s cost effective, produces less heat and provides the flexibility to get creative with architectural and mood lighting. So, it’s not a surprise that it’s expected to make its mark across all interior design spaces […]

It’s fireplace season! Time to enjoy a steaming cup of hot chocolate or glass of mulled wine while curled up next to a cracking, roaring fire. Sounds delightful! Not only do fireplaces add warmth and comfort, they also create a dramatic focal point in any room, provide the perfect backdrop for entertaining and add value to your home. But with so many options to choose from, selecting the right one can be overwhelming. Read on to learn about the types of fireplaces and the pros and cons of each so you can find the one that’s right for you. Wood Burning Fireplace Essentially, a standard wood-burning fireplace comprises these elements: Hearth (floor in front of the fireplace), Firebox (where the wood burns), Damper (the lever that opens and closes the flue) and the Smoke chamber and flue (where the smoke is drawn up and out).
