Alise: Pacific Green Pacific Green’s journey began in 1973 in Sydney as Post & Rail Furniture, focusing on iconic Australian craftsmanship. In the late ’80s, founders Bruce Dowse and Peter Ryan took a bold step toward sustainability by turning to the South Pacific, where they discovered a surprising resource: aging coconut palms. In a world increasingly driven by technology and innovation, some of the most powerful solutions to our challenges are hiding in plain sight—in nature itself. Biomimicry, the practice of drawing inspiration from the natural world to solve human problems, is reshaping the way we approach design, architecture, engineering, and even business models. From the aerodynamic efficiency of a kingfisher’s beak influencing bullet trains to the self-cooling ventilation systems of termite mounds inspiring climate-responsive buildings, biomimicry bridges science and creativity in extraordinary ways. Perhaps the most “famous” example? Velcro – 1941, engineer George de Mestral was walking his dog when he noticed burrs (like the ones pictured below) sticking to both of them. When he studied the burrs under magnification, he found their clinging property was the result of hundreds of tiny hooks. In this article, we’ll explore what biomimicry is, why it matters, and how it’s being used to create smarter, more sustainable solutions. Why Biomimicry? The goal of any interior space is to feel comfortable and inviting. Using ideas from biomimicry can help make your home more peaceful, lift your mood, and even improve how well you work or relax. Incorporating Biomimicry in Design Look to nature for your […]

Vaulted and cathedral ceilings are showstoppers—architectural features that instantly make a space feel grand, airy, and full of light. Their soaring lines and expansive height create an incredible design opportunity, but they can also pose unique challenges. The key is to bring balance, warmth, and proportion to the space, while celebrating the drama of the architecture. At Talie Jane Interiors, we love designing around these high ceilings to make them both beautiful and inviting. Here’s how the incorporation of beams, various materials from tongue and groove to metal, specialty lighting and even cabinetry can transform your vaulted/cathedral ceilings into a perfectly composed masterpiece. What’s the Difference? Vaulted Ceilings: Characterized by their arched or curved shape. While the term “vaulted ceiling” can encompass other shapes like domes or barrel vaults, an arched ceiling fits the general definition of a ceiling that slopes upward, often following the roofline, and creates a sense of spaciousness. Cathedral Ceilings: A vaulted ceiling and a cathedral ceiling both increase ceiling height, but a cathedral ceiling is a specific type of vaulted ceiling that features symmetrical, sloping sides that mirror the roofline. Design Techniques Faux & Real Wooden Beams are a designer’s secret weapon for vaulted ceilings—they add […]
